About us
The Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it) is one of Europe’s leading institutions for cutting-edge research and higher education in informatics. We shape digital transformation in close collaboration with industry and society, focusing on Data Science and its application areas in Human-Centered Information Systems, Life Sciences, and Autonomous Systems.
b-it is jointly carried by four prestigious universities and research institutions, namely the University of Bonn, RWTH Aachen University, the University of Applied Sciences Bonn Rhein-Sieg, and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, and is funded by the b-it foundation and other third-party sources.
b-it offers highly selective International Master Program in Computer Science and Applied IT. Many courses in these programs focus on aspects of modern data science and prepare students for careers in industry and academia alike. Courses are taught in English and on the highest international level and are accompanied by practical lab work at the participating Fraunhofer institutes.
b-it activities are supported by the b-it foundation, a 56 million Euro endowment, complemented by additional federal project funds and matching funds from North Rhine-Westphalia. The mission of the b-it foundation is to foster innovation in the internationalization and acceleration of German IT education through the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology. The b-it foundation operates through a Council headed by the NRW Undersecretary of Science and Research, Vice Minister PD Dr. Thomas Grünewald. An international advisory board of top IT researchers and industry representatives from all over the world supports b-it’s strategic activities.

Where our students come from
b-it brings together students from all over the world who are passionate about technology, innovation, and interdisciplinary thinking. The 74 locations on this map show just how global our community is – it connects continents, cultures, and backgrounds. Each student brings their own perspective, enriches discussions, and inspires new ideas. Together, they form our global b-it family, where learning extends beyond the classroom and cultural exchange shapes everyday life and, not least, the research of tomorrow.
