Register now for crypt@b-it 2022 – the Summer School on Cryptography in September

Secure communication channels are of great importance, especially on the Internet. Not only do they protect information from unauthorized access, manipulation or theft, but also ensure trust between users and web services and even make the latter possible in the first place. Encryption methods to enable sensitive interactions such as online banking, online voting, or crypto technologies like blockchain are constantly changing, as they are also permanently exposed to attacks. In particular, new potentially disruptive technologies such as quantum computing pose challenges to previously standard and still secure procedures.

New solutions are needed! But what progress has been made in cryptography in recent years, e. g. in the field of secure distributed computing? And what can cryptography look like in the post-quantum age?  The b-it's Summer School on Cryptography crypt@b-it 2022 provides practical insights into the latest trends, practices and developments. Over five days, from September 12-16, students and researchers get the chance to crypt a bit. Moreover, it provides acquaintance and interaction in an intellectually stimulating and informal atmosphere in pleasant surroundings.

Highlights of crypt@b-it 2022 include two courses:

  1. Isogeny based cryptography
Luca De Feo, who is a researcher at IBM Research Europe in Switzerland, will provide insights into post-quantum cryptography in his course “Isogeny based cryptography”.
  2. Secure Distributed Computation

In his course, Jonathan Katz, professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, USA, shares the basics of “Secure Distributed Computation” and offers his expertise in the fields of crypto and cybersecurity.

In addition, Maximilian Gebhardt from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), Germany, will take all interested parties on a historical journey to the 20th century: He presents and Enigma machine, which was used to encrypt messages during the Second World War.

The courses will be accompanied by hands-on tutorials. Additionally, a social get-together as well as an excursion is also part of the program.

Registration for the Summer school is open until 26 June 2022 23:59 (UTC+2). The summer school will take place on-site at the b-it in Bonn.
