b-it Master Programs

b-it master programs are distinguished by their international orientation, their focus on IT competence and strong integration of teaching and research. They include a significant share of research lab courses in the participating Fraunhofer institutes. The course contents are structured according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The final six months of the programs are dedicated to the master thesis that may be done in cooperation with industry.

General Admission Requirements

  • A first university-level degree (B.Sc., B.Eng.), as specified for the individual programs, with grades well above average is required. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is strongly recommended;
  • All courses are held in English, thus fluency in English is vital. It is evaluated on the basis of TOEFL 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, or IELTS 6.0;
  • Working knowledge of German is necessary to take up some the culture that the Aachen – Bonn – Cologne region has developed over the last 2,000 years. German courses are offered within the respective programs. Find out more about the German courses at the sites of the respective B-IT programs.
  • Admission is coupled to the placement in Fraunhofer Lab courses and therefore strictly limited.

Autonomous Systems

More information on application procedures is available on the Apollo application portal. Applications must be submitted no later than June 1 (to begin the program in the winter term) or December 1 (to begin the program in the in the summer term) of each year. Please mind the specific application requirements for the "Autonomous Systems Program" that may differ from the "General Admission Requirements". 

Media Informatics

Information on application procedure, and application forms are available at How to apply to Media Informatics. Deadline for application is March 1 for the program starting on October 1 of the same year. For applicants from Germany or the EU or applicants who have received or are going to receive their first degree in Germany, application is possible also after March 1st. 

Life Science Informatics

Please proceed to the Online-Application for the Master Program of Life Science Informatics. Deadline for application is March 1 for the graduate program starting on October 1 of the same year.
